Later I want to write about something you can check on to make sure you are well set in case a disaster like hurricane Helene or the Valencia flood hits where you live. But right now all eyes are on the USA’s election tomorrow. It isn’t easy to think about much else.
A meme on social media says that on 5 November the world will be like a person waiting for the results of a biopsy. That hit the nail on the head!
Remarks going into this?
Don’t believe the polls. Ignore the pundits. This isn’t up to them. It’s up to every voter, individually.
If you voted early or by mail, thank you. If you are going to vote in person tomorrow, thank you.
I don’t need to know who you vote for and neither does anyone else. It’s a secret ballot. If a poll worker tries to usher you into a voting booth with your partner, you don’t have to do it that way. You’re entitled to vote on your own—and if you need help casting your ballot, you’re entitled to neutral help from a poll worker. If a poll worker tries to turn you away, call the hotline I mentioned the other day, and as a last resort ask to cast a provisional ballot.
To vote tomorrow, bring whatever you may need. Start with your voter registration card, photo ID and proof that you live where your documentation says you live (e.g. utility bill) in case anyone challenges your right to vote. I hope you will also bring and wear a good face mask so you don’t leave your polling place with any of the respiratory bugs that are going around.
Add whatever you may need to get through a long wait. Something to drink. Something to snack on. Some of that to share unless your state has made it illegal to be so kind to another person waiting in line. A walker with a built-in seat if standing in line for hours would be too much for you.
Many people are anxious about this election, and especially about what could happen in its aftermath. For perspective, this is a good day to read Heather Cox Richardson’s latest post.
The USA has rescued itself from the brink before. We can do it again.
That was eloquent and helpful for your fellow Americans. The next few years are going to take courage and resilience to get through. Many people are already living in dire sraits, so they are more mentally and emotionally prepared.
We are likely going to have govt UAP, (Ufo) disclosure too, so it's going to be a wild ride. Ontological shock for many individuals.
I hope you're healthy and doing well, Bonnie. -- Jess
