I went to Representative Tom Cole’s local office in Oklahoma yesterday during my lunch break, handed the staffer my letter and expressed my concerns. He started arguing with me and when I asked him if he was concerned his financial data was now in the hands of Musk he said he thought everything that has happened was just wonderful. He tried a few Whaddaboutisms to avoid straight answers and as I left he uttered “In Trump we trust.” I’m pretty sure my letter went in the trash. I am not sure the tried and true will work anymore. Your idea of a general strike might be what’s needed. Although as an Army veteran I would be proud if the military recognizes the domestic threat and removes it. I am not sleeping well these days.
Not many people sleep well these days unless they are blissfully ignorant about what is happening.
Tip of the hat to you for actually going into Cole's office. THANK YOU.
Constituent input tallies are weighted by how much effort it takes you to do it and them to process it. Face to face is heaviest because it requires not just going to them, but somehow getting into their schedule, which is hard to do. Physically going to their office is next on the list. Phone calls come after that. Letters used to be weighty due to effort and the cost of sending them, but seem to have fallen to be as readily dismissed as email. They are too easy to send and too easy for the staff to process.
It feels strange and useless, calling my Congress-critters when anyone can see a coup is nearly complete. But if we want to rescue anything from the rubble, we have to keep going through some of the motions from normality.
