Oh, that's a good thought! Methinks I need to brush up on how to use it... I would hate to pick it up from them & not be able to demonstrate how to use it!
Oh, my! What a beauty! To hold something like that in your hands, knowing that it guided your ancestor around the seas and brought him home safely. It fills me with awe, wonder, admiration, and fascination.
Wow! What a beautiful instrument. Built to last; beautiful case also. It sparks my imagination thinking of how long humans have been navigating by the stars.
Updating my last will & testament is complex & costly. I have to do it in both countries (because each could refuse to honor the one done in the other country), with the two versions dovetailed. I won't donate it yet. It needs a little TLC, especially to clear away the fungus. I want to get back to being able to use it. Then I'll think about its future.
Bonnie with your back story your Grandfather's Sextant might make a great subject for the Repair Shop on BBC?

Thank you, Bonnie!
Getting to hold it again is wonderful. It is so beautiful.

I feel... reverent... looking at it & holding it. That's the only word I can think of for the feeling.
It is too special to donate just yet. Perhaps it can be willed to a museum when you pass?
