The tactic of snaring someone in a disinformation diatribe reminds me of how evangelical Christians try to get converts. Maybe you can do a post about the details of System 1 and System 2 thinking. Sounds intriguing. I sure wish the Dominion Voting Systems lawsuit would have demanded an apology from Faux "News" Corp. and an admission of the lies so their followers can see how they were duped. However, knowing how those types of people think, I'm not sure even that would have convinced them.
I recognize what you're talking about with evangelical Christians trying to convert people. Once, a couple came to my door to convert me and I ended up spending about 3 hours turning the tables, advocating feminism. They didn't know how to cope with that. The neighbor behind my house noticed this was happening and thought it was the best thing she had seen all week.
Why would I bother? Because while they were tangled up with me, they weren't getting through the rest of my neighborhood where some people may have been more vulnerable to social pressure to show hospitality by going along with their pitch.
And that's exactly why the best advocates for a policy are the ones targeted by opponents. If they can be drawn into a prolonged but fruitless "debate," they can be taken away for a while from where they are most effective.
Like you, I wanted to see Fox have to admit publicly to what they've done. Their viewers probably would have ignored the admission, but I wanted it.
I'll put System 1 & 2 thinking on my list of potential future topics. The whole book that lays it out is a stodgy read, but the concept is highly useful.
I know we can always count on you to tell the truth based on facts, whether the facts are what we want to hear or not. The engineer relies on facts, not opinions. Keep up the good work, Bonnie.
