I bought a large HEPA Honeywell filter for our office in 2021 and it made so much noise we could only use it overnight. (It was supposedly quiet-running.) Unfortunately we had to buy from a GSA vendor and couldn't get the one I wanted that I saw in my dentist's office. Quiet-running is an important quality.
We have the same situation in the USA. People are “tired of all this” and no longer wear a mask not only in stores and restaurants, but even in medical offices. Even some of the doctors! If people are tired of the deadly pandemic and want it to be over, why doesn’t everybody just get vaccinated? I can tell you why. They are listening to the wrong people.
I agree. I see fewer and fewer other people masking when I go out. Earlier this month, I cancelled an eye exam when I saw how unsafe the place was. Poor ventilation, only one employee wearing a mask (and it was a low-performance disposable), no air filtration. I guess people like us just have to do a lot of that, leaving unsafe places and switching to places that are behaving better.
The people we see out and about unmasked are mostly people who don't listen to or don't understand the science.
Protective measures are a matter of layers of different measures, not one silver bullet. If enough places offer plenty of layers and enough people take their custom there (that's us), others will have to start offering more protective measures to keep up with their competitors.
